A cold beer and food sounds like a grand idea. It can be very tricky getting out of those 4x4 shops without smoke coming off the credit card. Too many must haves!!!!! As we havent been that direction before we are happy to follow the crowd, besides our usual run is 15 hours through to Sydney so 700km is a doddle!!

I hereby propose a get together of as many attendee's as can make it at a pub somewhere to go over some of the logistics of this event.

Things to be discussed: who is bringing what, who can carry what, a rough agreement on timings, heading further north after hitting The Stuart Hwy at Glendambo to visit Lake Eyre, the meaning of life and lots of other good stuff.

I will list this as a separate event if people prefer or we can do it informally.

First night campsite now decided.

Acramans Creek Conservation Park.

Approx 740kms from Adelaide and approx 9:15 driving time. Only 15kms or so out of Smoky Bay and a lot closer to Ceduna to give us more time on the track the next day.

Lookup cache Goog's at Easter Night 1' (GCJ5X0) for some co-ords and a rough idea of what to expect.
Also lookup the long since archived Googs at Easter, 4x4 Caching Long Weekend (GCHR23) to read about Skippys problems with a Nissan.

Nice 'lux Jim. Good looking roof topper and awning combo.

Firewood is not going to be an issue as I have heaps to get rid of. I can fit a large amount in the back of my car as it is a dualcab ute but would appreciate having it shared around some other vehicles if possible. I will also be packing the chainsaw for 'just in case'.

I will also have room for other peoples bulky items in the tray if needed. Just let me know.

I visited ARB today to purchase a new snatch strap and ended up walking out with not just a new snatch strap but a nice recovery kit bag, an equaliser strap, a new compressor, and a new inflation gauge as well. Means the $100 cheapy compressor I only just bought is now a spare.

I also have a spare sand flag pole and bullbar bracket if someone wants to borrow one. Or make me a good offer and you can buy it.

Still looking for campsite ideas on the first night???

Edit to listing.

Removed Someuser from attendees list.

After much discussion, and to-ing and fro-ing, the route on first day will now pass through Kimba and then head on to we get as close as possible to Ceduna.
Unfortunately this will make for a long day of driving with not many caches found, and will bypass the Gawler Ranges, but will leave us with more time on the track itself.

Open to first night campsite idea's.................

Unfortunately it is with great regret that I have to officially pull out of this most awesome looking event. I really wish I could go as it looks like a lot of fun, but my priority at the moment is getting my wife to Australia and it means sacrificing some things for the long term gain. Have fun everyone. Make sure you post plenty of stories and photos.

Hi Adrian. Just wondering if you still planning on coming through Kimba on the Friday. If you are, The Wife and I figured we could put on a BBQ for you for lunch and I had considered putting out a cache just for you guys. I would be happy to suggest the "quick but interesting" caches around the area. If you want to ditch Wudinna (there aren't too many caches past here) you could always head into the ranges through Buckleboo.

Hi Tk2,

There was some discussion about a trip further north after hitting Glendambo but I think most people need to head back to jobs and such stuff for Tuesday.

As for joining into the convoy I am easy about wherever you join in, I only listed Pt Wakefield as I didn't know exactly where you would be coming from.
Surely being a country lass GumAko doesn't need too many cosmeticsWinkWink

Has anyone thought about heading to Lake Eyre when we exit at Glendambo,Gum-Ako is my passenger at this stage and we will probably head to Lake Eyre for a few days, the joy of being a farmer I have some spare time.
I have completely changed my motor, the old one shit itself during seeding, flushed the radiator, new injectors, new clutch and reconditioned diff, just need to change the oils and everything is go.
I may have room for one more it just depends on how much cosmetics Gum-Ako needs to bring.
As for the alternate route I am easy.
Adrian can I join the second group at Snowtown, it makes no sense to me travelling south to Pt Wakefield only to drive past Snowtown again on the way north to Pt Augusta.

Just canvassing peoples thoughts on a route change for the first day.

Current route is through Kimba and Wudinna and then into Gawler Ranges Nat. Pk.

Suggested change is to turn off at Iron Knob and head into the Gawler Ranges park from the top.
This would mean we could stop off at Mt Ive Station and climb Mt Ive.
There would be a fee per vehicle for access to the property which is currently $25 per vehicle.

It would mean missing caches but the route would be more dirt Big Grin and more scenic than the bitumen.

Open for discussion.............

I'm quite happy to "mechanic" on my Landrover. It is 15 years old and has no electronic crap to go wrong.

Edit to listing.

Added vehicle 15 to list of attendees.
The more the merrier and I'm anticipating some no shows anyway.

I'm still compressor shopping and have been slowly working on my vehicle.
I installed a new higher capacity intercooler, changed the swivel hub seals on both sides, installed a new heater blower motor, dropped and changed both front and back diff oil, engine oil and oil filter change, put on some front mudflaps, and on the list for this weekend is to change all the radiator hoses and give the radiator a flush.

That then leaves connection of the second battery and hooking up the new UHF radio.

Maybe I need to change jobs and be a mechanic instead.........

I visited the camping show today but I didn't buy a tent Sad
I am intertested in checking out Mr Parrot's RV5 though, as we saw it at the show and it looked good but just not quite big enough for a family.
I did check out the off road camper trailers though, the missus likes the Jayco style of camper but I much prefer the Adventure Camper Trailers.

I am also in need of a new compressor after my ARB one has given up the ghost, but in its defence it was 10 years old and had seen some hard service.

Any one out there with some reccomendations for a new compressor??

I apologise for not replying to anybody in regards to geocaching but that damn four letter word that starts with W and ends with K is keeping me busy at the moment.
Oh the joys of self employment.

The recon trip has not gone ahead as yet due to trying to find time to fit it in.
I will advise via a note here when I have some time to go, but be warned it may happen during a working week (the joys of self employment again).

As to costs for the trip it really depends on the occupants of the car.
When you add food, fuel, fluids and other incidental costs up and then split the costs there can be no set figure.

And I am jealous of those who have headed up the Birdsville track. I may have to ditch work for a week or so and head up there instead.

Check your RAA coverage & upgrade to PLUS if you need to. $100 or so vs $1000s

Another story from my own experience with RAA Plus. Be warned what you tell the RAA, because I said a rock had hit the fuel tank and caused a leak from it, they said it was an impact and to call my insurance company, end of RAA assistance. [:(!] What I should have said was my car is losing fuel, and I don't know where from.

was chatting to a guy at a party the other night who'd done Googs late last year - sort of! Was 100ks in & ripped out bottom pipe going into radiator from tranny. "what's that puddle under the car"? "oh s*#t".
Anyway, he was towed back to Ceduna & was told over a week for parts. But he had RAA PLUS that paid for accomodation & the transport of his 4wd all the way home to Adelaide.
Get the jist of this story yet??

I'll be there one way or another. I'll most likely be borrowing a six wheel 100 series land cruiser. I will have all kinds of recovery gear, snatch straps, spare wheels, tracks etc and a Sand Flag (essential for Goog's I've been told), UHF radio etc etc. The 6 wheeler has an extra large tank for 1500km fuel range.

I may turn up to day 1 in the RAV4 and pick up the Landcruiser at the end of the day from Smoky Bay before returning to camp in Gawler Ranges. Then after doing all the rough stuff in the cruiser, day four abandon the convoy and return to Smoky Bay. Then possibly pick up the RAV and head back home on Day 5, 6 or 7 Smile

EDIT: More likely I'll do the same as Orange Angels now and meet the fleet somewhere like Kimba. Full details coming very soon.
